Aim of the Project   Diseases such as congenital heart disease, leukaemia, and bifid spine are threatening children’s life. So the Beijing Charity Association calls on the whole society to care for the children, especially those of poor families who are suffering from diseases that can be cured through operation, so as to enable them to restore health through operation.

Background of the project   At present there are in Beijing 230 thousand people entitled to get aid from the system of ensuring a minimum standard of living and another number of families living near the fringe this “poverty line” These families can hardly afford the high cost of operation in case their children have congenital heart disease, leukaemia, or bifid spine. More often than not they cannot help but give up. One operation would give a second life to such children or greatly relieve them.

Contents of the Project    In consideration of the above mentioned situations the Beijing Charity Association has set up a special project named “let the Journey of Life Continue”, aiming at helping orphans and handicapped children and children from poor families suffering congenital heart disease, leukaemia, or bifid spine by providing money for them to undergo operations so that they can become healthy children. Such an operation would cost several to dozens to over a hundred thousand RMB. So the Beijing Charity Association has established care for children fund, to collect and solicit donations. However, this fund is very much short of money as of yet. Many children urgently in need of operation but are still waiting for their chances to be cured because they don’t have the money.

Up to the year of 2006, Beijing Charity Association has rescued 12 congenital heart disease children by free charge.

Procedure of the Project:

Determine objects to be helped

Contact designated medical institutions for diagnosis

Estimate the total medical cost

Solicit special medical aid fund

Send the child to hospital for operation and other treatment

The child leaves hospital after recovery

Monitor and assess the project (in six months)

Feed back and sum up the project
