Project of Charitable Aid to People with handicapped Limbs

Aim of the Project   The Project aim at carrying forward the spirit of humanism and the tradition of the Chinese people of helping those in plight and relief those in need. So as to help people with handicapped limbs to restore or partly restore the function of the handicapped limb so that they can earn their own living and join society while the burden of their families can be relieved.

 

Background of the Project   At present there are in Beijing 230 thousand people entitled to get aid from the system of ensuring a minimum standard of living and a number of families living at the fringe of the “poverty line” for various reasons. Among them there are more than 7500 handicapped people, of whom 2600 are with handicapped limbs. Investigation shows that conditions of about 600 of them are fit for fixing artificial limbs. They are a special group in the poor people, hoping they could fix artificial limbs so that they would be able to look after themselves and take a new step forward in their life, and at the same time to relief the burden of their families.

 

Contents of the Project   In consideration of the above mentioned situations the Beijing Charity Association deems providing such limb-handicapped people with relief an important item, so it has set up the project of “Give Your Love; Help people with Handicapped Limb Stand Up” The project shall enable such handicapped people of poor families can afford to fix artificial limbs so that they shall be able to restore or partly restore the function of handicapped limbs. The cost of an artificial limb is about ￥4500, and the artificial limb can last about three years. The association has helped 700 such people to get free artificial limbs by the end of 2005.

Up to the year of 2006, Beijing Charity Association has installed artificial limbs for 900 handicapped people in poverty by free charge.

Determine objects to receive such aid and their conditions

Contact artificial limbs fixing institutions

 

The artificial limb fixing institution measures the applicants

 

Try fix and readjust artificial limbs fixed

 

Fix artificial limb

 

Monitor and assess the project (in six months)

 

Feed back and sum up the project
